March 18-22, 2012, Hashemite University, Zarqa, Jordan
This training program covers both theoretical and practical aspects of planning of an energy system, future energy demand of a country through its economic sectors and by application of different policies and end-use technologies, new RES technologies and the most relevant parameters for their integration in energy systems, and energy recovery of municipal waste including presentation of technology and management systems. Also, principles of advanced optimisation techniques including Non-Linear Programming and Mixed-Integer Optimisation, how energy systems can be modelled by a set of algebraic equations including both continuous and binary variables, optimisation techniques of energy systems using the GAMS modelling and optimisation tool will be presented. In a combination of lectures and workshops participants will be introduced to the EnergyPLAN model (downloading, installing, using, constructing data-sets etc.), sustainable cities and communities, technical analyses of large-scale integration of wind, analyses of exchange with external electricity markets, combinations of different renewable energy technologies, and to designing energy systems based on multiple criteria. Finally, a development of a systematic methodology for the design and optimization of integrated renewable energy sources – reverse osmosis and renewable energy sources – membrane bioreactors systems in order to effectively address the increased design complexity observed in such systems and to develop integrated systems of high performance in a series of economic, operating and environmental indices will be discussed.
