About project

The objective of the JoRIEW project is to reinforce the cooperation capacities of Jordanian research centres by promoting closer scientific collaboration with a number of ERA located research centres and universities. The JoRIEW project will help to structure and enhance S&T cooperation in areas of common interest, such as research system integration, integrated energy and water planning, development of water supply systems that can be powered by intermittent renewable energies, in particular flexible pumping techniques and reverse osmosis desalination technology, where joint research efforts could bring common solutions and mutual benefits. It opens a new chapter of scientific cooperation policy between the EC and Jordan, an important partner in the EU´s neighbourhood policy.

JoRIEW project actions aim to enhance international cooperation with Jordan by including S&T capacity building (human resources, research policy, networks of researchers and research institutes) activities. Project will enable Jordanian researchers to contribute to the solution of local, regional and global problems and to economic and social development. Enhanced research capacity will also encourage researchers to compete internationally in terms of scientific excellence and increase their incentives to continue to base their research activities in Jordan.

JoRIEW project will reinforce the cooperation capacities of the Hashemite University (HU) which is one of promising Jordanian centre with highest quality of researchers and scientists and will enable them to improve the research activities in FP7 thematic priorities of FP7. During and after successful implementation of JoRIEW project and its networking actions and training modules, Jordanian researchers will be able to propose and participate in projects that will increase overall energy conversion efficiency, cost efficiency, significantly drive down the cost of electricity production from indigenous renewable energy resources enhance process reliability and further reduce the environmental impact and eliminate existing obstacles.

The actions of JoRIEW project will facilitate Hashemite University, other Jordanian organizations in JoRIEW Network and other consortium members to jointly apply further research and innovation policy projects in FP7. Such collaboration will also support the wider remit of European research policy as well as trade and industry-related policies. The production and use of scientific knowledge will also be a vital element for the establishment and reinforcement of the Union’s relations with third countries, on a bilateral, bi-regional or global scale.

By supporting and developing the JoRIEW network of research centres, institutes and other organizations and trough organization of dissemination activities European universities, research institutions and firms will get chance to establish contacts with their partners in Jordan and Middle East. By successful application of JoRIEW actions ongoing cooperation, S&T dialogues and networks will be further enhanced at regional level in order to identify priority areas for international cooperation and to apply joint projects. This network will promote regional integration and will also be used for strengthening the coordination of S&T cooperation and the complementarities with activities carried out by means of other Community policy instruments. JoRIEW network will also facilitate signing of S&T cooperation agreements and will encourage the coordination of national and regional policies and programmes in sustainable energy and water research to those of Member States and Associated Countries.
